INTERVIEW // Hannah & Jacob’s intimate elopement at Byronviewfarm

May 26, 2020

Real Weddings

Hannah & Jacob were one of those totally loved up couples that I still pinch myself about. Their romantic garden wedding at Byronviewfarm in the Byron Hinterland has us feeling all the feels… From the most amazing ceremony arbour to the custom designed floral installation inspired by Japanese cherry blossoms, this is what micro wedding dreams are made of! We absolutely loved working alongside this incredible team of suppliers to bring this stunning wedding to life…

HOW DID YOU GUYS MEET?
We met nine years ago at a music gig in a Gold Coast warehouse after being introduced by a mutual friend from uni.

HOW DID THE PROPOSAL HAPPEN?
We were on a holiday in our favourite place – Tokyo. It was springtime and we were lucky enough to be there while the cherry blossoms were in bloom. I was taken by complete surprise when Jacob popped the question under a sea of cherry blossoms in Shinjuku Gyoen Gardens.

WHAT WERE YOUR REASONS FOR CHOOSING BYRONVIEWFARM AS THE VENUE FOR YOUR SPECIAL DAY?

There is something something special about Byron View Farm that just draws you in and we knew it was the one right away. The panoramic views of both the ocean and the hinterland are pure magic and it was the perfect size for our small wedding. It was an added bonus that I could stay at the cottage with my bridesmaids and just relax the night before.

WHAT STYLE WERE YOU STRIVING FOR WITH YOUR FLORALS AND RECEPTION? WAS THERE A CERTAIN LOOK OR VIBE YOU WANTED TO CREATE?

Byron View Farm is already so stunning, so we kept our styling romantic, elegant and minimal with florals as the main focus. The hanging floral installation was divine – Estelle from The French Petal brought our wildest dreams to life when we asked her to draw inspiration from a canopy of cherry blossom trees – just like the ones we were engaged under.

WERE THERE ANY VENDORS THAT YOU PARTICULARLY LOVED WORKING WITH AND WHY?

The French Petal’s magical hanging canopy of blooms was a big highlight. Our photographer, Janneke Storm, was so lovely and warm, making Jacob feel comfortable in front of the camera when he is usually the one behind it. We also can’t go without mentioning Carmen and the rest of the team from ELOPE for making the day so seamless, easy and relaxed. We didn’t have to worry about a thing!

WHAT MADE YOU HAVE AN ELOPEMENT / MICRO WEDDING?
We wanted the day to feel relaxed and easy so that we could really enjoy the company of our friends and family. Having a small wedding meant we could have fun, chat with everyone and savour the precious moments.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO ELOPE PLANNING & STYLING SERVICES? HOW DID YOU ENJOY THE PLANNING PROCESS?
It honestly feels like we hardly did any planning! All of the details just kind of fell together and Emily made the process so relaxed and easy, so we had a lot of fun with it. Even though we were having a small wedding, Emily still made every detail feel important and we were blown away with how everything unfolded on the day.

OVERALL, WHAT WAS THE MOST FAVOURITE PART OF YOUR WEDDING DAY?
We decided to do a private ‘first look’ before all of our guests arrived. It was such an emotional and surreal moment, and then Jacob surprised me with a freshly inked tattoo of my initials on his arm. I was absolutely blown away, and it was so special to share a few quiet moments together, just soaking it all in.
